Created by TY2 Kickstarter

Welcome to the post-Kickstarter Bush Rescue Shoppe! This nostalgic platformer boomeranged back to consoles in 2021, thanks to the support of the fan community! Discounted keys, and limited extra merchandise from the Kickstarter are only available here, and only while quantities remain. Check with your local retailer/online. European Union and United Kingdom orders are no longer accepted, including digital items, our apologies. Unfortunately, we've had to make this difficult decision due to VAT registration issues. Developer Stream No.1 - Recap!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 03, 2021 at 04:33:57 AM

G'day friends - a bit of a different update for you today.

You see, the other day we hosted our first TY2HD Developer LiveStream over on Twitch but some drongo on the team (me), forgot to tick the box to save the VOD for our backers to view later. *whoops

So to remedy that, I'm going to try my best to recap on some of the questions received and topics covered within the stream. I can't promise that I'll get everything we discussed AND I will be for the most part summarizing the answers - but here is definitely some of the highlights. I'm hoping you find this information interesting! Let's get crackin'...

Let's get the BIG thing outta the way first,

Steve Stamatiadis, Creative Director and TY's creator, shared that Doomeranger is a set-up for where the story would go if there was a TY5.  Then, he went on to discuss how the Doomeranger part 2 comic will continue to help set up the plot for the next installment.

Synkro_infinity sparked this conversation by asking; "would we ever get the story on TY and Sly's life before the first game" to which Steve responded with his desire to have a look into the past of some characters but didn't want to go into too much detail on how/when.

Another great question came in via the Twitch chat asking, "Do you think there’s a market now for a TY the Tasmanian Tiger TV show with the rise of streaming services?" We did give it a go a long time ago. We're open to trying again.

Throughout the stream, Lindsay Parmenter, Head of Development, was able to give the viewers some technical insights into things like, how the loading screens for TY2 were handled and even "faked" to look outdoors when technically players are "inside" a box. He later went on to talk about clever ways the team saved on memory in the original copy of the game and that with the newer memory limits of more modern consoles, the team were able to remove the fences in Burramudgee to make it one large sandbox level instead of being broken up into two parts.

swiftysharigan asked, "Any updates on the TY2 Statues, can't wait to get my 2nd one." Ashley Bushore, overseeing the Kickstarter and merch, covered this question by following up with how production is going. We've selected our manufacturer and are in the process of finalizing the last two models of Series 2 of the figurines.

Jacob R. asked via Kickstarter, "What have been the easiest and hardest parts in remastering the TY games so far?" to which Steve quickly responded in a joking manner that "not having some of the source files" for TY1 made it a lot more difficult to remaster, whereas TY2 was a lot smoother in that respect.

We then followed up with a question from Conor J. from Kickstarter, "What is the geography of the Outback? Can we ever expect to see a map that connects all the locations from the game?" - the answer to this one came in a few parts, firstly Steve talked to the limitations of the consoles back when the games were originally developed and that he hadn't originally put thought into how those locations would connect canonically. But in TY2 they moved toward that more interconnected open-world format, even bringing over location names that they really liked from the original TY game. And that, moving forward, he would like to further expand on these locations but couldn't make any promises to when or how that would happen.

Charlotte L's question about Poly also came up, and both Lindsay and Steve were able to talk about the inside jokes for characters like Poly being based on a friend of the studio and that Ranger Ken's outfit was essentially modelled from the clothing that Lindsay would wear to the studio, a fashion sense that he still holds to this day (see TY1HD & TY2HD Kickstarter videos.)

From Kickstarter, Slimane R. was curious to get the latest on the Playstation version of TY2HD and are there any added benefits for playing it on PS5?  We talked about not having dev kits to check and see for ourselves, but that we would expect perhaps faster load times.

Zion G's Kickstarter question about the EA TV commercial was discussed. He was curious how we managed to do it without any legal trouble. We joked about it being big EA, and not little us behind that commercial, but more so how the animals in the hospital beds were labeled with generic animal classifications "Hedgehog", "Bandicoot", and "Dragon".

Also during the live stream, Steve showed us the special NPC character in the game,"DownUnderGamer", who nabbed the top project backer tier and is our Honorary Bush Rescuer. Since he was also on the call, we shared with him why we moved him down out of the map room and into the open.

We'll wrap up this recap with clarktheman, who asked this popular question in the Twitch chat, "Will the TY 3 Kickstarter start this fall?" Truthfully, our focus has been and continues to be on fulfilling our commitments to the TY2HD Kickstarter backers. We still have so very much to do with getting the physical goods made and shipped, plus the new Doomeranger part 2 comic.

I think that about covers it! Sorry again that we didn't catch that setting to archive the stream. We'll let you know when we'll schedule the next dev livestream. It'll definitely be early morning for Europe when we do.

Thanks again to all the project backers! We enjoyed hanging out with you.
